Are you are looking at having major work done due to periodontal or other such diseases?
Your dentist will review the advantages and disadvantages of your options – possibly dental
implants or dentures to replace the teeth that have to be removed. Both dental implants and
dentures are made to match the color of natural-looking teeth. They are designed from dental
x-rays and impressions of your mouth, taken by your dentist.
The idea of having to get dental implants in Washington state may seem a bit overwhelming.
Dental implants are an expensive procedure that costs about $2,500 to $5,000 per tooth, if
done individually and they are restored with individual crowns (caps). The cost is generally a
$1000 less per tooth, when they are placed to support a denture. That makes a full upper or
lower set quite pricey. Most insurance companies only cover a small portion of the cost or
don’t cover implants unless medically necessary due to an allergic reaction to denture
material.. But dental implants can last a lifetime if you care for them properly. With a solid
fit, just like natural teeth, they eliminate many of the disadvantages of dentures, such as
slippage and gum irritation.
On the other hand, dentures can be the most cost effective alternative. If created precisely, of
top quality materials, in a dental lab, by a certified lab technician, they should fit well.
Slippage will be minimal, especially if you follow the dentist’s instructions for proper care of
the dentures. There have been many new breakthroughs in the evolution of modern dentures.
This includes implant posts that are less expensive (by about 60 to 70 percent) than full
dental implants in Washington. The implants keep the dentures securely in place instead of
using denture adhesive cream. It’s the difference of placing or removing your denture with
your tongue vs having to use both hands snap them in or out.
The cost of dentures is about $1,000 to $3,000 per plate, depending on the dentist, lab, and
insurance co-pays or coinsurance. Partial dentures cost about the same as a full upper or
lower denture. Keep in mind that over time they can cause wear, decay, or weakening of the
abutment or surrounding teeth.
No matter which method you and your dentist decide upon to make your smile brighter and
healthier, the cure is worth the cost.
